Learn more about Turmeric
Did you know turmeric is a flowering plant called Curcuma Longa? It’s actually in the same family as ginger. It is a very bright yellow when ground down to a powder form—and commonly known to have long been used in India for medicinal purposes.
More recent research has found that turmeric can help combat cancer, heart disease, ease depression, arthritis, prevent Alzheimer’s, and more.
There are also daily ailments that you may be suffering from that a turmeric dose can help with. Turmeric can be added to your diet to help ease your everyday mobility and joint discomfort. Try it in pill form, or add the spice into your smoothie.
If you haven’t heard of the trendy “Golden Milk,” why not whip up a batch? Start with 1 teaspoon turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 3 cups coconut milk, and1/8 teaspoon black pepper. Shake it up with enough honey to suit your taste buds. Golden milk is best consumed within 24 hours of mixing for maximum antioxidant benefits. You can also add a pinch of turmeric into your salad dressing or soup as an easy way to reap the anti-inflammatory benefits of this spice.
It’s recommended that you combine turmeric with piperine, a black pepper compound, for maximum absorption. The enzymes in the stomach, intestines, and liver can metabolize most of the curcumin found in turmeric, and piperine will help boost the absorption. Notice the addition of pepper to the golden milk recipe. If you’re cooking with turmeric and adding in black pepper, it’s a significant enhancement.
